Die Set Item
just purchased a chiller for sw tank almost everything crashed and died any suggestion on what went wrong?

chiller was set up useing brass fittings and poly pipe could this be a problem had 2 fish 2 aneomie 1 sea apple 1 sea cucumber 1 burnt sausage 1 star fish and live rock still have last 2 items i have 2mtr x 1 mtr tank

I agree, brass contains copper, which is highly toxic to invertebrates, but it's harmless to fish in small quantities. I wouldn't think the copper would leak into the tank that fast though. How long was the chiller up and running before your tank crashed? Did the temperature inside the aquarium fluctuate a great deal after adding the chiller? A large temperature swing can spell trouble.

Cucumbers are toxic, but I don't think one would take out a tank that large. The only other culprit I suspect is the Sea Apple. If they are stressed, they can release toxins that will kill all of your tank's inhabitants. I'm not sure what a "burnt sausage" is, so I can't offer any advice there.

I know it stinks when your tank crashes, but try not to get discouraged. Every hobbyist has had their own share of major malfunctions at one time or another. In the mean time, I would swap out the brass fittings, do a large water change (50% or more), and run a lot of carbon in your filter (if you are not already). I would also buy a copper test kit, to see if there is any present in your water. In the future, I would also stay away from Sea Apples. They are beautiful creatures, but not worth the risk in my opinion.
