how does the blade housing for a cricut expression go together?

I just got the cricutt expression for christmas. i put the machine together as the instructions indicated, but it would not cut. the machine did its things but the blade never came out. i don't know what to do or how to fix it??

I got the first cricut that came out, and I had the same trouble with mine. I didn't have the needle down, so I put in the cutter again then it worked. I guess I didn't have it in right.
